Kylie: Impossible Princess

Impossible Princess is the name of Kylie's 6th album released in 1998, one of her stand out works, deep and soulful lyrics, and mature, yet sometimes hard, music arrangements. This is not what critics or other people say, this is how I understand it. IP (short) is one of my favorite albums along with Rhythm of Love and X. And this is only based on songs, their lyrics and sound (not the whole image of that Era), although I really really like Kylie's style back then - futuristic as usual! ;)

It is more than underrated or commercially not successful, it is THE masterpiece!! Nowadays people return and refer to that album again and again, remembering IP much more than even 10 years ago. No surprise here - because if you heard it, you'd understand what I mean! ;) (in Australia it was successful and reached #4 in charts, but in UK it sold only 44,000 the year it was released, although it charted at #10) In 2003 Impossible Princess was reissued with a bonus disc of remixes and B-sides and Q Magazine (UK) referred to the album as a "hidden gem", praising it as a "lost pop masterpiece".
What makes this album even more special, is the fact that Kylie herself took creative control and wrote almost all of the lyrics for the songs, which had been included to the LP. It was a total change in musical style for Kylie as she went into indie rock, jazz and folk. The "Intimate and Live" tour was Kylie's first tour after 1991 Let's Get To It, mostly played in Australia (only 3 dated scheduled in London) and was a great success in her native country. The DVD only was released in 2002.

The track list of the album:
1. Too Far
2. Cowboy Style
3. Some Kind Of Bliss
4. Did It Again
5. Breathe
6. Say Hey
7. Drunk
8. I Don't Need Anyone
9. Jump
10. Limbo
11. Through The Years
12. Dreams

Impossible Princess was released on 1 November 1997 by BMG Records in Japan, on 12 January 1998 by Mushroom Records in Australia and on 23 March 1998 by Deconstruction Records. The album was produced by Dave Ball, Ingo Vauk, Brothers in Rhythm, Manic Street Preachers and Rob Dougan.
Song "Free" (hasn't been recorded and written in 1995) and "You're The One" (leaked in low quality) which have not been included in the album are two of the fans' favorites until today, as well as "Dreams" and "Say Hey", which have not been released as singles, but take a huge place in fans' hearts!

Just LISTEN to the lyrics of "Dreams" (Homecoming Tour) and you'll get it! Plus, "Free" (Intimate and Live):

So, here are all four videos for the singles from Impossible Princess album (the last single, Cowboy Style, was released only in Australia due to a big success of the Intimate and Live Tour):

"Some Kind Of Bliss"
(written with James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers):

"Did It Again":

My personal favorite, "Breathe" (Kylie wrote it):

And one of the best songs as well, "Cowboy Style":

Hope you like it! :)
